Introduction to a Journey of Faith, Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults: An Introduction

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) or Catechumenate is a process whereby adults and families are welcomed and received into the Roman Catholic Church. The process is intended for thouse who wish to come iinto the Church. The entire community participates in one way or another in the catechumenate process. Those who participate in the process are introduced to various aspects of church life worship, creedal profession, prayer life, and outreach to other members of the community. Throughout the periods of formation, the community prays in a special way for those who wish to be initiated into the Roman Catholic Church. The catechumenate culminates with the celebration of the Easter Vigil when the catechumens are fully initiated to the faith and receive the sacraments of initiation to the faith and receive the sacraments of initiation: Baptism, Confirmation and the Holy Eucharist.
